Commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child which is held every 10th October each year. The 2023 year theme was “Invest in Girls’ Rights Leadership our well-being. FAWEESWA in collaboration with the Regional Education Office Guidance and Counselling Department commemorated this day on Wednesday 1st November 2023 at Mphundle High School in the Lubombo Region.
Empowering girls and boys on Sexual Reproductive Health and life skills. It was a day well spent as the discussions were quite active. It was good to have the girls share their future dreams. In conclusion, they were motivated to study hard and avoid relationships that would lead them to dropping out of school because of teenage pregnancy.
FAWEESWA Team visited Gilgal High School, to give a talk to the learners both boys and girls, about Gender Base Violence as it was the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism.
The talk was centred around promotion of good behaviour of learners as they were going on a long vacation. The girls were warned against involving themselves in relationships with older men, who offer them money for sex. Such relationships if sex is denied often end up in killings of the girls. Boys were also warned on drinking alcohol as it often leads to irresponsible behaviour, sexual harassment of girls and women and also getting involved in fights, which leads to killings and arrest.
The team advised the learners to make sure that they don’t become part of the statistics of Gender Based violence during the 16 Days of Activism. All learners were advised rather to stay at home, relax and enjoy the holidays with their relatives. For those who will accidentally find themselves pregnant, let them return to school to finish their education.
