Prevention of Environmental Degradation

Prevention of environmental degradation while improving the livelihoods of the Macudulwini community outside Mankayane. The project was implemented in collaboration with Eswatini Environment Authority (EEA) with funds from Global Enviromental Fund (GEF) Small Grant through the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP).

The project closed a deep and widening gulley which was eating into the road with the idea of protecting children going to school (Access) from accidentally falling into the gulley. It was also planned to plant trees and vulva grass on the rehabilitated land to stop further land degradation. Lastly, it aimed to raise awareness for the community and the school children on the implications of climate change and environmental issues on women and girls. The impact of working on the rehabilitation of the gulley and the education was impressive: there was community cohesion on addressing these issues, women leadership emerged after realizing the impact that climate change has on them, and most of all there was high community participation.
